🌍 Epic Adventures Unveiled! From Air Force Base Surprises to Shark Tank Thrills – Join Our Wild Journey on the Open Road! 🚐✨

Greetings, dear readers! Welcome back to our nomadic escapades on the open road. It's been a hot minute, hasn't it? We've dusted off the tires, tuned up the engine, and we're rolling back into action, albeit at a much more leisurely pace. Our compass pointed us toward the enchanting Nellis Air Force Base, nestled at the north edge of the dazzling Las Vegas.

Now, you might wonder why we're setting up camp on a military base. Well, being a retiree family comes with its perks, and let me tell you, the privileges of utilizing the campground, commissary, and PX have become our newfound joys.

As we rolled through the gates, a spontaneous tour of the family housing area unfolded. Playgrounds dotted the landscape, enticing our adventurous young ones who clamored to explore. Our destination? The Desert Eagle RV campground, where we braced ourselves for the unknown, wondering how our sprightly camper would mesh with the older camping crowd.

Surprise, surprise! The campground was an oasis of tranquility, disrupted only by the thunderous roars of the Thunderbirds practicing their aerial ballet. Our kids, including the big kid Steven, couldn't resist rushing out each time, eager to catch a glimpse of the soaring marvels and indulge in Steven's tales of airborne adventures.

Now, when it comes to practical matters, we knew the base was going to be our grocery lifeline for the next leg of our journey. Off we went to the commissary, and oh, what a pleasant shock! Prices that magically slashed about 15% off our regular grocery bill. A true blessing for our wallet, considering it's our closest grocery store a whopping hour and a half away at our next stop.

Post-commissary triumphs, we ventured into the PX, a mini shopping haven sans taxes, reminiscent of a Target. We jotted down notes on RV maintenance supplies, scouted for clothing and sporting goods, and bid adieu to the shopping haven for the night.

Days unfolded like the chapters of a captivating novel. We explored soccer fields, playgrounds, the dazzling Vegas Strip, and the mesmerizing Valley of Fire State Park. Ah, but no adventure is complete without a twist in the plot, right?

Picture this: a tantalizing offer of Excalibur Tournament of Kings tickets dangled before us during a timeshare presentation. A seemingly innocent two-hour affair morphed into a marathon six-hour spectacle, leaving us ravenous and ticketless due to a "glitch." Mandalay Bay Aquarium tickets in hand, we retreated to our camper, hungry but with stories to tell.

The unexpected took center stage when Steven and L decided on a post-dinner soccer match. Little did we anticipate that a phone call would soon have us racing to the ER. A dislocated and relocated knee became the talk of the base, with Steven's only solace being that it happened on an Air Force Base, not a Navy one. Oh, the trials and tribulations of life on the road!

Undeterred, we pressed on to the Mandalay Bay Shark Reef Aquarium, a cold morning's delight for the kids, even if it failed to impress this seasoned aquarium-goer. Tunnels beneath the shark tank became the highlight, with sightings of the majestic Sawfish and an elusive octopus.

As we packed up, laundry done and camper prepped, we couldn't help but laugh at the unpredictable nature of our journey. Pain tolerance became a currency as Steven geared up to drive, and with a sigh of relief, we headed north to our next destination – the Preserve!

Join us on this rollercoaster of adventure, where every twist and turn unveils new stories and unexpected discoveries. Until next time, happy trails and stay tuned for more tales from the road!
